The view from my studio

Winter: the return of the Cormorants

My studio overlooks a river and on cold winter mornings I see flocks of Cormorants flying in from the coast. Working together they herd fish towards the riverbank and capture them in their hungry mouths.

From my studio window I gain insights

which I capture in my artwork

When Cormorants land on water their bodies sink just below the surface.

It gives them a stable platform from which they can tackle the tricky task of ……

Swallowing an Eel.

A surreal image of a bird's head with a long neck, holding a snake in its beak. The bird's head resembles a falcon or hawk, with a small yellow patch around its eye. The shadow cast on the ground is elongated. The background is a plain, muted green. There is a logo or signature in the bottom right corner.
A bird, possibly a cormorant, in water holding a fish in its beak with a drop of water falling from it.
A duck swimming in water with a fish in its beak.

Cormorants span out their tail feathers in the water.

This act enhances their stability; as the eel twists and turns trying to escape.
